As the Snow Falls
Volunteers in Kalamazoo County help keep sidewalks clear.

When snowflakes begin to fall in Kalamazoo, the KPEP staff keeps a close eye on the weather report.

This winter, KPEP and Kalamazoo Township have been collaborating on a snow removal project in parts of the township, especially in the East Main and West Main neighborhoods. Volunteers from KPEP head out with snow shovels in hand when 2-3 inches of snow accumulates, and begin clearing sidewalks around Metro Transit bus stops and in front of homes where homeowners haven't been able to keep the walk clear.

The snow removal project is described by KPEP staff as a way to assist Kalamazoo Township, keep KPEP a good neighbor and allow community service opportunities for residents. By mid-January, 10 residents had participated in the project for a total of 65.25 hours.
